There was something we passed earlier which kind of looked like giant bones... I want to go take a look at them!

And he'll do it again -- or well, he will jump right off the boat and onto the thing's serpentine neck, kicking with enough force that it makes a loud and awful sound (sorry about your hearing, You), before writhing around to try to seize him in its mouth. Luckily, he's too fast too furious to be caught, but there's no way he's a match for this thing]

[It's probably apparent, at this point though, that he's trying to buy time for You and company to get out of attack range.]

[ayes]

[And the boat, sure enough, is getting out of the serpent's attack range as the water begins to pick up.

You, however, realizes that... there's less and less chance he's going to make it back to the boat.]

--hey! Wait! You gotta get back in the boat! [She shouts. Her ears are ringing, though, so no way to tell if he hears it.]

[Of course he hears, he's Matty Sue et all. He is a little preoccupied at the moment, though, keeping the thing at bay. He doesn't acknowledge the yell, so at first it may seem like he hasn't heard it -- but after a few well-aimed, hard kicks to the serpent's eyes, it gives out an inhuman scream -- and Matt scales down its body and takes a flying leap towards the boat----]

[Naturally, he doesn't make it, instead he hits the water hard, but he's close enough that he can swim the rest of the way. You will have to figure out how to get him back up, though, he may not be able to climb back up on his own without risking tipping the boat a little too much]

Ah crap, crap... [She says. Through the ringing, she hears some roaring behind her, and turns to look over her shoulder. There's a series of rapids about a hundred feet away, because of course there are.

She scurries over to the stern of the boat, bracing herself against one side and offering her hand to Matt.] Come on-- get in, quick!

Just make sure it doesn't tip over---

[He's pretty heavy and she's a teenage girl, but he grips her hand and uses it as leverage to heft himself up. He's injured and winded, especially from the hit to the water, but with some grunting, he flops over inside the boat and groans]

--It should be clear now. Keep going.

[Fortunately, for a teenage girl, You is surprisingly strong and athletic.

That said, there's no real getting around the sheer size and weight difference, and it's all she can do to brace herself all on the side of the boat and help him in... but help him in she does.

She takes a brief moment to catch her breath.] Brace yourself-- there's gonna be rapids! Uh, get flat, I can steer us--
